Congratulations to
Life-Changing Teaching Award Nominee
Kara Pitney
Alice Deal Middle School

Mrs. Pitney's ELA class is my favorite of the day. She always makes me feel like my opinion is heard, and appreciated. I always loved Literacy, but now I love the actual class period. I love how encouraging she is, and even when I feel like I don't know the answer to a question, she makes me feel like whatever I say is beneficial to the conversation, and the lesson. She does this by saying short encouraging lines like "remember, there is no wrong answer!" and after you respond she will show you she appreciates what you said by saying "snaps for that!" or "I uplift that!". In general, Mrs. Pitney makes her "classroom" feel like a safe space. Also, if I forget something crucial, she never looks down on the fact that you forgot something. Instead, she smiles, assures you that it is quite alright, and tells you what you need to know. She likes to hear other people's stories, and I like when she shares some of her own.
