My name is Massiel Perez I have a four-year-old son that attends Whitter Elementary school. Before my son started school in person in the fall of 2021, I experienced an immense amount of fluctuating emotions. My son Mohamed was non-verbal, experienced occasional emotional outbursts, and it was his first time going to school. I was unsure of how he and the teachers would receive each other. In June of 2020 he was given a provisional diagnosis of autism. That same year he began virtual classes, but it wasn’t as effective as I’d like. I was still very worried on how things would be once in person classes became available again. The following year he began in person classes with Ms. Khadijah Adiodum and it was the smoothest transition I could’ve asked for. Before the first day of school Ms.K (as we call her ) extended an invite to her class room. Visiting the classroom before the first day of school, gave us a chance to meet Ms. K in person. It also gave Mohamed the chance to see and get a feel of the environment he would be in. After our visit with Ms. K at the school I felt very positive about his first day, and I knew that Ms. K would be the perfect teacher for my son. Ms. K is very special to me and my son because she has been a key component in my son’s growth over the course of the school year. Before my son started school in person his vocabulary was very limited. He barely knew his colors and numbers. My son vocabulary has improved so much he surprises me every day with new words, and he is able to identify many objects. My son walks around identifying all the colors he sees in sight. He is now able to express himself a bit more which has help calm his emotional outbursts. Ms. K is always available to address any questions or concerns. Ms. K goes above and beyond for my son and her students. In the beginning of the school year, I experienced a hiccup at the school with my son. There was an incident in after care where my son’s emotional outbursts got the best of him. I expressed to Ms. K that I was thinking of withdrawing Mohamed out of after care, and she quickly came up with a solution. Ms. K expressed to me how she feels aftercare is beneficial for Mohamed’s growth. As he can interact with other students who vocabulary is more advance and how it can expand his social skills. She introduced me to extend day where Mohamed will stay in her class until 4:30pm and then head to aftercare until my arrival. Mohamed was officially diagnosed with autism in the fall of 2021.Ms. K doesn’t place my son in a bubble based on his Autism diagnosis. She sees so much potential in my son, and she is helping him achieve all his goals on His IEP. In preparation for upcoming school year Ms. K has been informing me of the next steps for my son educational growth. She has provided different options she feels will be the most beneficial form him. I am very grateful to have Ms. K as Mohamed Pre-k4 teacher. She has help him in so many ways. Mohamed has improved so much, and we can all see the difference in his vocabulary, behavior, and interactions with others. Whittier is an amazing school with an awesome staff. We look forward to next school year. This school year has exceeded my expectations and its all thanks to Ms. K. Her hard work and dedication for my son and his classmates does not go unnoticed. She is genuinely a very loving and caring teacher who is making a big impact in my sons’ life. It’s not easy being a teacher and Ms. K does with effortlessly.

Ms. A as we call her has been my granddaughters teacher for two years - first and second grade. My scholar has become excellent in her reading skills and even after homework has been completed she is still reading books. Her thirst for learning is never over. Ms. A also boosts the kids self esteem with free haircuts all year long for our male scholars. Just an awesome person inside and out.

Ms. A is truly a kind, helpful and dependable person. She goes above and beyond to make sure that my daughter gets the content and offers extra time to assist with any questions. I often find myself at times having long conversations with her because she doesn't make understanding your child's progress and goals like a lecture, it's more like catching up with an old friend and hearing about all the exciting things they've been up too. She makes it easy to understand and gives materials to use at home to support with her development. Ms. A always has an upbeat personality which my daughter enjoys because it helps her to have better days when she's feeling down, the extra hugs make all the difference especially when they aren't expected. She makes herself available no matter the hour you need her and always provides her support wherever she can. My daughter has had the pleasure of having Ms. A two years in a row due to her being able to move up with her students when they went to second grade and she loves it and so do I. This allowed us to build an even stronger bond while preparing for my daughter to learn new skills for another grade level. Ms. A. encourages my child to read with confidence (which she struggle with ), not to be afraid and develop a love for reading at all times. She constantly stresses that reading is fun and shows it daily through her teaching. She also incorporates the children's interest and allows them to speak on topics they already know then challenges them to learn even more. Recently when my daughter started the reading clinic and I had concerns about how she was going to get there but Ms. A assured me that we would work together to get her there throughout the program as this would help to increase her reading skills while giving her extra support after school hours. When I needed her she was there and sat through my daughters tutoring session when I couldn't make it and spoke to her mentor afterwards to see how she was doing. Ms. A. goes above and beyond to make a difference in my daughters life and many other children and I appreciate and am grateful for each and every moment she has with her.

My teacher, Mr. Abusam is a great teacher. He is an excellent teacher because he recognizes the students who actually do their work. He also treats bad situations with care and respect. Mr. Abusam is one of the most loved teacher of the 7th grade in general. He also explains the math work that he does so that all students get A's. Mr. Abusam might be the best teacher of the 7th grade and that is why he should be recognized as an excellent teacher.

Reese and Charlie were both lucky to have Mrs. Adam's as their third grade teacher at Allisonville Elementary. She is truly an inspiration because she makes an effort to instill a love of lifelong learning in each of her students. She has been a difference maker for Reese and Charlie and so many others who have had her as a teacher. If you asked them what their favorite memories of Mrs. Adam's class would be they would tell you stories about climbing out the window to read, giving crayfish silly names and singing songs about math facts. The joy they experienced as her students will forever be in their hearts. "We love Mrs. Adam's", they would describe. This year Mrs. Adam's class received second place in the "I love to read Challenge" There were over 100 classes in Central Indiana who participated to see how many minutes they could read. She cheered on her class every day encouraging them and praising their hard work. In the end it wasn't about the amount of minutes, but the adventure they experienced as a class to celebrate reading. Mrs. Adam's is the teacher who comes to cheer you on at your baseball game. She writes you a note when it's been a rough day, or meets you at the bookstore to read together in the summer. She's the person who motivates you to bring a headlamp in the car so that you can get in those reading minutes at night, stays after school to practice math, and goes above and beyond. I remember once begging Mrs. Adam's to move up and teach 4th grade and she shared with me that she didn't think she could teach anyone who was taller than her. As Charlie and Reese keep growing they continue to love learning- a tribute to being inspired by one special teacher.
