Ms. A as we call her has been my granddaughters teacher for two years - first and second grade. My scholar has become excellent in her reading skills and even after homework has been completed she is still reading books. Her thirst for learning is never over. Ms. A also boosts the kids self esteem with free haircuts all year long for our male scholars. Just an awesome person inside and out.

My teacher, Mr. Abusam is a great teacher. He is an excellent teacher because he recognizes the students who actually do their work. He also treats bad situations with care and respect. Mr. Abusam is one of the most loved teacher of the 7th grade in general. He also explains the math work that he does so that all students get A's. Mr. Abusam might be the best teacher of the 7th grade and that is why he should be recognized as an excellent teacher.

Mr. Burt was my sixth-grade math teacher. Before him, math was, to me, something I was not at all interested in. I thought it was a fact of nature that I was bad at math, and there was nothing to be done about that; it was time to give up on even trying. To put it shortly, Mr. Burt proved me wrong. He made math fun in a way I didn't really know was possible before. He taught me important skills for learning in general like Cornell Notes, as well as making the math curriculum engaging mixing in fun aspects into the class like a class pet, a (stuffed) turtle, and treats from an incentive system that actually lasted the whole year. Today, I am an eighth-grader in a high school Geometry course. I love math, and I owe it all to Mr. Burt.

How he also made my life different is by translating the work I don't understand and he is also funny and he is nice what he also does is when I'm not in a good mood he tries to cheer me up and when some people distract me in my work he moves them around so I can complete my work. For me Mr. Cuadro is the best and he knows a lot of math and I love math.

Mr. Cuadro is very enthusiastic about math! In class he makes sure each student is engaged in the lesson and understands what they are learning. He also pushes students that need additional help to participate when he is teaching a lesson. He has made me more excited about math and eager to go to math class.

My biggest concern was trying not to fail that class and I knew I shouldn’t be failing it because it will help me prepare for college. My teacher is special because she means a lot to me and she has taught me what I am capable of and all the good things that I could do.

Dr. Delgado has been teaching Spanish Humanities to me, Baldewin Bokus since 6th grade. My family is not native Spanish speakers at home. I had had Spanish everyday K-4 at my previous elementary school in CT. When we moved to DC for my final year of elementary school at John Eton, there was no Spanish. At Alice Deal, Dr. Delgado evaluated me and told me that I would have to work hard, as I was 1 to 2 years behind other students. Dr. Delgado has supported me all the way. At first I lacked confidence and was always shy in class. Dr. Delgado challenged me. The result today: I participated in a school trip to Guatemala and had no issue expressing myself and exploring the culture of Guatemala. Dr. Delgado is totally dedicated to all of his students. During summer, he took the time to correct weekly book summaries I would send him. He is VERY responsive to my emails and questions. I am so lucky to have had this wonderful teacher in my life. Teaching is a very hard job and I do not take it for granted.

Dr. Delgado has brought a lot of joy in to my life by constantly being positive, supportive and having a great sense of humor. He has made learning a language way more fun and he has taken the time to get to know each and every one of us personally. There were a few kids who skipped class and he encourages us to get them to come to class knowing they cared more about what they're friends said than teachers and if we got them to come to class for one week we would get ice cream for everyone in the class.

Mr. Delgado has always been a great teacher that encourages me and other students to do our best and never give up. He has made learning a foreign language interesting and something I look forward to every day. He has a great sense of humor and brightens the classroom with his funny jokes, making the environment delightful. He has always been helpful to students and parents alike. Sometimes people come in late to class and sometimes skip the class altogether. Although this is only a select few he always encourages them to not skip class and be on time to class. Me and a group of friends always stay late after school and help him clean the classroom. He sometimes rewards us with treats like a small bag of chips and skittles etc. Even though he gives us treats, we overall just like him as a teacher and a friend. He is the type of teacher that makes you smile and want to be there and learn.

Mrs.Fox has made a difference in my life by welcoming me and my girls into her life. She has been the most helpful, loving, kindest and funniest person I’ve ever met. She is one of the greatest teachers I’ve ever met in my life. Without her in my kids life I don’t know where my kids would be today. She has really helped my child accomplish more than they expected. If it wasn’t for her and her great teaching and dedicated and hard work my baby would not be reading today or writing in a complete sentence. Those kids love her like she’s their real grandmother and she’s like a second mom to me. She goes above and beyond for those students like no other teacher I know. She would give them the shirt off her back if she had to and she would do anything for those kids. She loves those kids like her own and she is the best teacher ever and I mean best teacher ever. She should be recognized for her great accomplishment with helping my daughter and the other students achieve goals with reading and math and helping them be better students and helping them strive for excellence. I would recognize her for being a great and amazing teacher and for being a great friend and second mom to me and my kids. Ms. Glover has taught two of our children now and each time has been such a great experience for my family. My children love her like they would a family member. She is currently teaching our youngest and had been excellent in communicating our child's social and academic progress. She recognized that both of our children were advanced in some areas and made sure to create curriculum that would not only keep them engaged, but would challenge them to keep trying to attain higher levels of knowledge. She is a wizard with classroom management--which I guess you would have to be with a room full of 6 year olds. Our youngest son has the energy of 1000 puppies and she's able to keep him on task, engaged and accountable for his conduct. Lots of appreciation to Ms. Glover from the Deskins Family.

I would like to recognize Ms. Green because she is one of the teachers I like and by this I mean I like what she teaches me. It can be easy sometimes and hard she also makes class fun from time to time. She sometimes jokes around with us and she doesn't teach in a boring way like we just sit there and she talks she does more than that. She also makes class fun to the point which helps me because I don't fail her class and she is a very funny person.

Ms. Guillen has great communication. She involves parents and empowers students to be self motivated. She is very compassionate about her students. Open door policy with great attitude. Keeps you involved with students progress or lack of progress and comes up with suggestions for both sides. When Ms. Guillen found out my wife was from Morroco, she loved the country so much that she gave my wife a present from her country. I was very impressed because it shows love is from the heart not race or religion. Overall great teacher to have!

Miss Guillen has helped my only child go through this school year feeling at ease in the loving and family-like environment she provides to her apprentices. I feel at such ease treating any possible subject with her and her assistant Mrs. Maria, related to but not only my child's emotional wellbeing. To me, this results in better academic achievement. I personally like her interest in each child's personality. She doesn't fail when it comes to pointing out small issues with them. I like her special interest in helping them turn into strong, kind and socially able little people. Thank you Miss Guillen for all of your dedication and patience.

Ms. Hawkins has made a big difference in my life because Ms. Hawkins every day works her hardest with to make sue that we can complete the assignment. Even sometimes to make sure everybody gets a good grade she extends an extra day 2 for us to finish. When we are not behaving to our fullest she still tries her best to make sure that we at least complete something and she has helped me overcome at lot of things. I've known Ms. Hawkins for 2 years now and when I first met her we were starting the year off bad then she began to make me feel comfortable with her working with her when needed without being judged. Helping me learn how to write essays annotating getting me ready for the grade that I should be prepared for. And now she has taught me different things no teacher has ever taught me.

I appreciate Ms. Hopkins because she pushed me to have exceptional work in her class. In 5th grade, my ELA teacher didn't teach me the material I needed to be ready for 6th grade ELA. Because of this, I came into 6th grade with little confidence in my ability to write essays and understand different writing and reading methods. On the first day of school, Ms. Hopkins let it be known that she was going to do everything in her ability to make sure that we understood the material. She also let it be known that there were going to be times that we wouldn't enjoy her methods or her class. She was not wrong. Once we got into the more complicated work in her class, Ms.Hopkins did everything in her power to insure that the information would stick. As first, it seemed as the work was unneeded. Ironically, when time came for essay writing and test taking, it was clear that all the time she took in making sure we understood what we learned payed off. It was most clear when the PARCC came and I knew how to write different essay forms that I would need to know how to write. The cherry on top, however, was that Ms. Hopkins taught us life lessons that some are forced to learn the hard way. These are the main reasons that I am very much appreciative of Ms. Hopkins caring, sincere, and determined nature.

I re-enrolled my daughter into Payne Elementary School after putting her into 3 other schools over the past two years. It's a long story but my daughter has been diagnosed with a development delay as well as ADHD. The school she attended in kindergarten was not a good fit because they were not proactive at all with her, so I enrolled her in my local school which worked out surprisingly well for the rest of her kindergarten year. She went back to that school for 1st grade (but unfortunately I had the enlightening idea that the Montessori environment would probably be the best fit for her: I was sorely mistaken. The classrooms were chaotic and she wasn't learning for most of her time there. Not only was she hardly learning, but she was also having meltdowns and refusing to enter her class (so basically I felt like it was worse than daycare- we had moved beyond that when she attended daycare). So, I decided to put her back in Payne (admitting to myself that I should have never taken her out of this school). Ms. Hubbard, along with her colleague, Ms. Perry advocated for my daughter to get a dedicated aide, which has helped her tremendously to be able to become an active learner in her second-grade class, both academically and socially! Before my daughter received the aide, she tried to help my daughter as much as possible, and now she has made amazing gains in her academic success! Ms. Hubbard's thoughtfulness and dedication has put my mind at ease so much and I can only imagine how my daughter would have fared if it had not been for her. Thank you so much, Ms. Hubbard!

Mr. Hunter has really boosted many of his student's confidence by saying if we think we can do it you are right and if we think we cannot do it then you are right. We take advantage of this saying because it helps us become better every day.

Ms. James is always there when I need her. She is nice and sweet and helpful. When she teaches and I don’t understand, she will explain more unlike most teachers who would say ask your classmates. She is helpful and welcomes you to class with a wide, beautiful smile. Little to no one has been sent to the principal office for getting in trouble.

The things she does for us makes our day much better if we have had a bad day. She is funny, very intelligent and kind. Her teaching skills are amazing and I have already learned so much French. Way more than Spanish in the 8 years that I did it. There is no doubt in my mind that my teacher wants to help us do our best and learn as much as we can. Instead I felt like I wasn't going to be like everyone else, and that I wouldn't do well at school at all. But in Ms. Maniscalco's class, it was different. She was the one who noticed how I felt and told me not to worry. That I was doing just fine. She challenged me specifically in certain projects with tough assignments. One thing that my teacher has done to make a difference in my life is that she has helped me out in many ways throughout this year and she is really nice to me. But sometimes I take that for granted and to be honest I feel bad sometimes because she is really nice and I don't behave in her class. So what she has done is that I actually feel more calm in her class sometimes when I'm feeling good.

Ms. Perry, along with her colleague, Ms. Hubbard advocated for my daughter to get a dedicated aide, which has helped her tremendously to be able to become an active learner in her second-grade class, both academically and socially! Before my daughter received the aide, she helped my daughter one-on-one as much as possible, and now she has made amazing gains in her academic success! Ms. Perry's thoughtfulness and dedication has put my mind at ease so much and I can only imagine how my daughter would have fared if it had not been for her. Thank you so much, Ms. Perry!

Mr.Rowe made an impact in my life that I wasn't aware of until I finished his class. Everyday he has a unique energy that no other teacher I've had matched. He handles rough situations with seriousness but still positive. His teachings is different from memorize and repeat, instead he motivates us to learn more than what he taught us in school. Others may see him as a normal math teacher, and it's true during school time. But after school he becomes a friendly person who opens his door to anybody. Whether it's help for homework or play chess with him. In other words, he's different and he's shameless about it. I mean, he still uses a flip-phone even though he has enough money to buy a new phone which is still mind-boggling to me. His interests in puzzles, games, music and so much more, makes him a great person to have a conversation with about almost anything. Overall, his traits both as a teacher and as a person, make him an amazing teacher to have and a person to converse with. Hopefully he's able to overcome any challenge he faces.

The first thing I want to say is that Mr. Swain is the best math teacher I've ever had. This is because when he teaches, his directions are clear. Mr. Swain is the funniest. He makes learning fun. He does this by adding fun games into our lessons. The point of this is that Mr. Swain is the best and he deserves to be recognized.

Being in Ms. Warren's class is one of the few things that has gotten me through the school year. She's always energetic and kind, and somehow manages to radiate positivity every single day. Her teaching style is heavily focused on discussion, and there's always an opportunity to voice your perspective. One thing that amazes me is that when a student says a remark that sparks controversy during our discussions, Ms. Warren is quick to diffuse the situation, acknowledge that everyone's opinion is valid, and then explain why it may have been insensitive or ignorant, like when a student jokingly yelled out "All lives matter" during a discussion about the Black Lives Matter movement. Although everyone knew it was a joke, she still took the time to explain how that phrase was used to diminish the significance of the movement. She's also incredibly empathetic and notices whenever someone is feeling down. In fact, she's done the most out of my teachers in helping me through my depression. Ms. Warren was the first to talk with me, listen to my situation, and provide support and advice wherever she could. She offered her own life experiences and shared what she did when she was in a similar situation. When my situation worsened, she helped me connect to one of the social workers at school. Although I might be struggling to do assignments outside of the classroom, her encouragement and support had never faltered.

Ms. Williams is a fantastic teacher. She goes above and beyond for her students. I watched Ms. Williams teach her class for the past 2 years and have seen how well she did. Just from watching outside her classroom door I knew who was going to be my child’s kindergarten teacher. I now have the pleasure of my child being in Ms. Williams class this year and I must say it’s been great so far. I have no complaints. Ms. Williams works very well with her students and strives everyday to make them better. Ms. Williams cares a lot about her students and shows a lot. My child comes home almost everyday with a story from school and how much she enjoys the activities in the classroom and how much her teachers have helped her. With the help of Ms. Williams and Ms. Soloman, my child is reading a little bit. With their help and my help at home she will be fully reading by the end of the year. Ms. Soloman and Ms. Williams are a dynamic duo that is truly the best combination of teachers in a classroom. They ask me for any concerns I might have to help my child, what my goals are for her and they help me to achieve those goals or get close to them. They push my child to do what they know she can do without giving up on her during the times she might shutdown. I believe Ms. Williams and Ms. Soloman should be recognized for their dedication and hard work.
