Durning this whole online schooling transition they have made it easy and FUN which is totally what the kids needed! Karleigh loves to login to catch the morning song the children sing. Spanish is not Karleigh’s first language and Ms. Guillen takes extra time out during instruction to make sure Karleigh understand what was said. She suggested different books and learning methods to help Karleigh become more fluent in Spanish. Thank you!! This has been an excellent school year.

Nora says: She helps me read and write in Spanish. When I first got to Kindergarten I was nervous and I didn't know what to do and I felt like I had a lot of catching up to do. But then Ms. Guillen helped me get started and making sure I got on the right path and it changed me a lot and I appreciate it. When I needed help with something she would help me and tell me what to do. When I was trying to do a sentence, I couldn't and Ms. Guillen helped and it was easy then. Ms. Guillen should earn an award for being such a great teacher and I appreciate her patience and how she helps me when I can't do it myself. Dad says: When we started Pre-K 4 with Nora, she always wanted me to come with her to class when I dropped her off. In Kindergarten, when we get to school gate, Nora often will run to class without me. Some of that is age, but it is also how happy, confident, and comfortable she feels in Ms. Guillen's class. Nora has loved school this year, and at the end of the day is bubbling to share with us everything she's learned. I'm especially impressed with how her her ability to read and write in Spanish has grown exponentially thanks to Ms. Guillen. While the remote learning has been difficult, having daily contact with Ms. Guillen has been so important for Nora. And it has been an unexpected blessing to watch Ms. Guillen teach. We've gotten to see how she showers love not just on Nora but on the entire class and how skillfully she gets everyone to participate and learn. We feel very fortunate to have been in her class.

I do not think we could be thankful enough for having Ms. Guillen teaching our daughter. She was more than a teacher. Not only she followed School Curriculum, but moreover, she taught live skills I am sure our daughter will never forget. She was attentive, sensitive to everything that was happening in and outside of the class. She wanted to know about challenges all kids may had outside of the School boundaries, and always went out of the way to help them learn, always trying to help integrate them all, no matter what their origin, background, or color of the skin. She still comes to our daughter´s birthdays years after being her student. She knew our daughter extremely well, because her goal was to educate a human being. She always had a wise suggestion about how to best educate our kid. She always had time to talk about our kid, and was never in a rush, never unavailable. Ms. Guillen is an outstanding professional, and an amazing human being. We will always be thankful for her dedication, passion for teaching, love for helping in the process of building a human life. She always had a couple of new words posted at the door of the kindergarten classroom. Every child would pronounce those words before entering... sometimes asking them to use a phrase to include those words. She always welcomed each and everyone of her students at the door. That is just an example of many small but important details that makes her an exceptional educator.

Ms. Thompson is a grown up in a room full of grown ups. She emanates calm and wisdom; it's hard not to feel confident that all will be well when you're in her presence. Earlier this year, I asked her about my son's engagement in reading. He's reading at a 3rd grade level - maybe even better - and I expressed concern about his getting bored. She responded that his reading skills aside, he had room to grow in his respect of other students and empathy; he wasn't always patient with classmates who weren't reading as quickly as he did. So, she had been assigning him books to help expand his kindness, empathy, and social skills. I was amazed that, with the number of children she teaches, and the range of different needs, she was able to identify this growth area for my son and implement a plan to improve upon it using a medium he already loved. She adapted to distance learning in a snap - maybe faster than any of us??? Other 1st grade parents and I text one another that the insanity of the morning suddenly dissipates when we hear Mrs. Thompson's warm, assuring voice. Like, oh, good, she's here to take care of everything. I've often tried to emulate her tone on my own conference calls! I have learned a lot from her as a parent, and look forward to having another child in her class in a few years.

Ms. Nassar has been a part of Amelia's life--even as she has moved beyond 3rd grade. Quite simply, there are teacher and then there are role models and people who shape the idea of what a teacher can be in a child's life--Ms. Nassar is the later. During the school year, she still welcome Amelia and a few of the "big" 4th graders come and clean--a tradition they were so proud to do and I always felt better knowing that there was a "grown up" who spent time with them in a way that empowered them. They all seemed delighted by their company. Even during physical distance learning, Ms. Nassar took the time to send an email inquiring about Amelia, which meant the world to her and to us. Having been around education enough I had heard the term "master teacher", and at Marie Reed, there are really exceptional teachers. And, even among the best in class, there are some that find ways to unlock possibility not yet known even to parents. Ms. Nassar is one such teacher. She helped Amelia see herself as a teacher and to really believe she could push through things on her own--a lesson that is proving ever more valuable in this current era. From Amelia: Ms. Nassar really made a difference in my life by really making me know that teachers aren't just teaching us but that really care about us. She shares her life with us and gives us time to share stories about our lives. When she does teach, she makes if fun--like by using games. She used a puppet show theater and she gave the kids puppets and stories and since she's a bilingual stories and then we could do it in Spanish. Last year for all the kids she did homework, she made amazing waffles and she also made biscuits and sausage. Those made us feel special and also gave an incentive to do homework. She checked in on me when all this madness started, even though I am in fourth grade. She still remembers and loves all of her students. In 3rd grade and some in 4th grade, we enjoyed being with her so much, we put together a group to clean her classroom. No matter what we did, we were always laughing. We would talk about how our life is going, how school is going, how we are doing in general with our family and we usually we would also talk about Bocci--the dog. She's really a great teacher.

I cannot thank enough for Mr. Englehart’s and Ms. Matthew’s strong support and great patience to my daughter throughout her first school year in Marie Reed PK3 program. My daughter has Asian background and her English skills were very limited at the start of the school year. In addition, she hadn’t had any day care experience before joining the school, so I was little concerned if she could do well with other students. However, both Mr. Englehart and Mr. Matthew carefully listened our concerns and tried to help my daughter as much as possible. I am sure that it was not easy to look after a student who doesn’t understand their instructions in English, but both were extremely patient. They gave me a regular feedback on how my daughter was doing in the class and shared a lot of suggestions to improve her behavior and language. After the few months, I was very happy to see that my daughter really enjoyed going to the school every morning and became part of the class. It is very unfortunate that the school has been closed due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, but we are very much looking forward to joining Mr. Englehart’s PK4 class in the next school year. Thank you so much again!

Whether it was assisting during morning drop off, recess or lunch, Ms. Dance was always there for the kids. She is not only compassionate but also an expert manager of the classroom. "She is the greatest teacher. She does school online and I'm glad I get to see her on the video every day. Mrs. Fox says I have superpowers because I got my eye surgery. That's why Mrs. Fox says we both have superpowers, because she also got a surgery." - Andrew Mrs. Fox has a special way of making each child feel special, including my son. He had eye surgery which made his eye very red and many of his classmates had strong reactions when they first saw him (naturally, it was very red!). To make sure he didn't feel bad, Mrs. Fox created this special bond with him about their superpowers. I've always loved that she looked out for him after his surgery. She has also been the perfect teacher to handle his special needs. She took the time to get to know him early in the school year and started adjusting to his learning style right away. She recognized some accommodations he needed and made those adjustments long before we got them written into his IEP. As the parent of a child with special needs, there are few things that give me more comfort as I send my child off to school each day than to know he has a teacher who is aware of his needs, and wants to accommodate him so that he can succeed. She really has been the best Kindergarten teacher we could have asked for! Whether it's physically in the classroom or virtually in a live video class during distance learning, she gives 150% every day and is so very committed to these kids and their growth!

We have been blessed to have Mrs. Davis (Dance) as the aide in Andrew's class for two years in a row! She was a consistent, skilled aide in PreK-4 and this year has been a fabulous support in the Kindergarten classroom. For the first half of the school year she was actually in the classroom next door, but shared with me one day that she often went into my son's classroom to check on him when his classroom aide was absent. It gave me so much comfort to know that a teacher that already knew and cared about him would be checking on him! She is always honest and straightforward, and really cares for the students. During distance learning she has been behind the scenes, making sure each student is in the right classroom call, working through technical difficulties, and keeping up with children who need extra support. Our live online video distance learning classes continue to be a true success and she keeps things running smoothly! She is extremely dedicated to the Payne Elementary School community and the lead teachers she supports and the students are lucky to have her! We are so thankful for you, Mrs. Davis-Dance!

She is offering a Harry Potter Book Club and is reading several chapters of Harry Potter a week to her students and is also inviting special guest readers to read with her. She is offering small group reading and writing groups once a week besides a one hour daily live session. During the online live classes she incorporates mindfulness exercises and dance breaks, so the students can get their wiggles out. The students have also gone on virtual field trips to zoos and had an elephant keeper as a special guest speaker as they are learning all about animals at the moment. Mr. Martis has been a fantastic teacher ever since the first day of school. I vividly remember arriving at orientation, baffled and overwhelmed. Almost immediately, Mr. Martis approached me told me a little bit about himself, and asked me about myself. This small act was my first interaction at my new school, and it truly helped start to feel acquainted to this new place. Every day in class, we would learn fascinating things about the world around us. I remember, when we were in a unit about space Mr. Martis spent a day talking about the concept of time-one that I find truly fascinating. He talked about how time, rather that a construct in our mind, is something physical that can be bent by strong forces such as gravitational pulls. It was at this moment, when Mr. Martis was talking about the sheer fabric of the universe that I realized how truly an incredible teacher he was, for taking to time to help us see the universe through a comprehensive and fascinating lens. In class, we constantly learned more than facts-Mr. Martis indulged us in unique simulations allowing us to truly understand what we learning, taking our time in the classroom well beyond the curriculum. Not only were Mr. Martis's classes enjoyable, they filled me with awe. The grace with which Mr. Martis taught about complex topics, and demonstrated fascinating principles through different experiments was simply amazing. My favorite, perhaps of these demonstrations was when we were learning about how a material's density impacts how it works. Mr. Martis explained that warmer substances (such as boiled water) are less dense than those that are cooler and therefore they rise. He demonstrated this by dying boiling water red and extremely cold water blue and then pouring them both into one tub. I have no words to describe how amazed I was to see the lessons we had learned in action, the red hot water remained at the top of the container as the blue water sank to the bottom. Not only is Mr. Martis an extremely good teacher, he is an amazingly kind person. If I were ever struggling with an assignment in class, Mr. Martis would make sure to set aside some of his own time either after school, or during lunch to help me. These times made me feel like somebody truly cared for me, and really helped me grasp the complex topics about which Mr. Martis was teaching us. I've enjoyed every moment in Mr. Martis's classroom, so when I found out that our school was switching to distance learning because of the Covid-19 outbreak I was devastated. Despite all the challenges that come with distance learning, Mr. Martis has continued to be a great teacher. Our weekly live lessons are something I always look forward to. During this time, Mr. Martis explains our lesson, goes over assignment, sparks interesting and deep conversations about the topics we are learning about and more. Inevitably, distance learning is challenging, and if I ever struggle with an assignment, Mr. Martis is always available for office hours where he patiently explains to me anything I am confused about. Throughout distance learning I have learned how truly valuable it is to be able to see my teachers in the classroom each day, and every day I am reminded of a truly incredible a teacher and person Mr. Martis is.

Since I started learning with Ms. Ramirez, she teaches me how to speak more Spanish and I got better and also she was there for me and for others too. I appreciate it so much because every time I was sad, she was there for me asking me if I was fine. On her work when I didn’t understand something she was helping me, explaining with details not only to me to other students she did the same thing too and other students that their first language is English now they know a little bit of Spanish and then try to speak it because thanks to Ms. Ramirez she helped them to try there Spanish reading in Spanish translate words on Spanish. When I have a problem I just think about her and go to her and talk to her because she gives me good advice and a hug to feel better when I’m depressed. Thats why I just seen her like my second mom. She is the best teacher I had in my life. She is awesome. She’s nice, caring, funny positive. She made me and other students to stay positive and never give up. I got better on my paragraph. I first met her at beginning of this school year. She came for a home visit along with one of Ariana's other teachers Mrs. Hopkins, then again while meeting the teachers at school. She is a warm friendly person. Though it was part of meeting that night, she showed where Bubble sat, and had recognized that Bubble has issues staying focused but did better with minor distractions, so had her sit in front of the room. Bubble did exceptionally well during 1st quarter and was excited about school, come home stating how she participated in class on several occassions. Bubble was dealing with some personal issues prior to Christmas break, and recognized a change in Bubble's demeanor, talked to her, then requested conference with my Wife and I. We discussed the issue, and I felt so good that the teacher, Ms. Williams was attentive to her personal well being other than just class. On another occasion when Bubble did not have something she left in car after I dropped them off, Ms. Williams called me and stated she could meet me quickly before class started to give to her, which she did which was vital to Bubble's psyche. When Bubble has a bag taken from a locker, she recognized the bag a few days later, confiscated it, and gave it to her. She offered to supply her with a lock, which we actually purchased on our own elsewhere, but I felt it was a Great gesture. When Bubble was not doing well she let us know that as well. She has been there for several trips, PTA meetings, and overall a positive influence.

Mr. Zhi has changed my perspective of foreign language teaching. He has always taken the opinion of his students and used it to adjust his lessons to make us more engaged. I remember one time before the bell for 5th period rang, before I walked in, he tapped me on the arm and pulled me aside. He asked me, "Do you want me to be nice to you today, or want me to be serious?" Of course I said to be nice, but since that day he has always asked me the same question, and since that day I have been able to pay more attention in his class and have more fun (because I have ADHD).

When I came to Alice Deal in the middle of last year from another country, after not being in a Chinese program before, Ms Han helped me to catch up to all the other kids. Ms Han always goes above and beyond, and is very much under-appreciated at Alice Deal. I have her this year again, and she is my favourite teacher. She always motivates us, and reminds us that we can be amazing at Chinese if we have a good attitude and apply ourselves. I feel that Ms Han has made everyone in my class feel welcome and even though kids often give her a hard time, she always comes through it and teaches us something new. She always helps me to make my essays and work sound more authentic and more like a native-speaker.

This a for my son's foreign language teacher in grade 6, Evette Lang. I wanted to honour Ms. Lang because she was a strong stable person at Deal during the somewhat difficult transition year to middle school. My son enjoyed her as a teacher and the fun activities she did in class. He has always wanted to become a fluent French speak and excited that Deal offered French. For me, Ms. Lang teaches French but also life lessons to her students. She was a teacher who called home to tell parents of good things their children were doing and accomplishing in class and at school. The first call took me by surprise since I never got calls from my son's teachers. It was refreshing and thoughtful. Thank you Ms. Lang.

I got put in a math class one grade ahead of me. It was really hard to pass and was very challenging, but Mrs. Lashley helped me through it. Since I had trouble understanding in her class I would go to grit almost every day. Grit is this time where you can show up at a teachers classroom and they will help you do homework, re- due assignments, or understand the lesson they just taught. Mrs. Lashley would always help anyone and go out of her way for anything. Especially during digital learning she would have grit everyday, send emails, update assignment due dates, and have after hours if students needed them. What I most like about Mrs. Lashley is that she would have funny posters on her wall that would help you remember different rules for learning math. It helped when I was in pre- algebra and there was so much rules to follow and many different steps she would sing them to us to help us remember. When we had pie day this year which was a day that was celebrated on March 14th in honor of 3.14. She let us bring circular food to the class to celebrate. We had a fun activity to calculate the circumference of the bubbles that we blew and it was so much fun. Mrs. Lashley is the best teacher. Thank you for becoming a teacher and helping so many kids.

My son says: "I feel like I can discuss anything with Mr. Singleton, he makes me feel safe, he is like my school Father.” As a parent this makes me very happy. Mr. Burt was my math teacher for 6th and 7th Grade. He’s such a fun and loving guy that cares about his students. Whenever I had class with Mr. Burt, he tried to keep it fun. Every once and a while we would play Jeopardy and I think it was near the end of school when we played a game where you were in teams and if your team got the right answer you got to try to shoot a football into a recycling bin and if you did you could double or triple your points. I remember having so much fun that day that when class was dismissed I hugged Mr. Burt before I left to hang out with friends. Mr. Burt is and will be one of my favorite teachers ever. If you're reading this Mr. Burt, thank you for somehow making math class fun.

Ms. Thomas has made a difference in my life because she has made me believe in myself when I don't understand what we are learning. She has challenged me and made me go out of my comfort zone, which makes me way more open to new ideas and creativity. She may be an ELA teacher, but with what she has taught me about taking risks and believing in myself, I have improved in other places in life, too. With most teachers I am scared to raise my hand because I am afraid that if I get something wrong they will be mad, but with Ms. Thomas I feel perfectly comfortable sharing my ideas. She pushes my thinking and her ways of teaching are so fun and enjoyable that when I walk into her class everyday, I think "Yes!! Why can't all my classes be ELA?" I have always enjoyed reading and writing, so I knew from the start that I would like her class. I just never realized how much. Ms. Thomas is the kind of teacher where you can have lots of fun in class AS you learn, not the kind of goofing off that happens everywhere else. Sometimes the teachers allow those fun moments, but Ms. Thomas has somehow found a way to be fun as she teaches instead of allowing snippets of fun times. I love her class so much and unlike most others, I just know that her class will be one that I remember the context for instead of forgetting over the summer. 🙂 As we all adjust to this weird time of being online for school, I know that I can count on her to understand what it is like for students, because she admits that it's hard, too, and lets us talk about it. Ms. Thomas is an amazing teacher that ABSOLUTELY deserves this recognition - with her upbeatness and fun side, as well as the best teacher.

Mr. Norton has modeled what it means to be an engaged scholar and a citizen to his students throughout his teaching. It is clear that he has such a unique and easy rapport with the students, based on how my child talks about him at home and our observation of his interactions with the students at school. We also appreciate his sense of humor that are inclusive and quirky. Learning should be fun, and he seems to truly enjoy making it so. We are grateful that our child got a chance to spend *almost* a year with him, if not for the COVID-19 school closure. We appreciate that he has reached out to the students as he transitioned to the distance learning format to see what would work best, but it's clear that the students all miss their time with him in the classroom - and why wouldn't they? What we appreciate the most in her teaching style is how she gets the class to work collectively. Instead of creating a competitive space, Ms. Nassar ensures that the class strives for the collective achievement. We are so grateful to know that our child is learning life skills that are just as valuable, or likely even more valuable, than math in her classroom. Ms. A is truly a kind, helpful and dependable person. She goes above and beyond to make sure that my daughter gets the content and offers extra time to assist with any questions. I often find myself at times having long conversations with her because she doesn't make understanding your child's progress and goals like a lecture, it's more like catching up with an old friend and hearing about all the exciting things they've been up too. She makes it easy to understand and gives materials to use at home to support with her development. Ms. A always has an upbeat personality which my daughter enjoys because it helps her to have better days when she's feeling down, the extra hugs make all the difference especially when they aren't expected. She makes herself available no matter the hour you need her and always provides her support wherever she can. My daughter has had the pleasure of having Ms. A two years in a row due to her being able to move up with her students when they went to second grade and she loves it and so do I. This allowed us to build an even stronger bond while preparing for my daughter to learn new skills for another grade level. Ms. A. encourages my child to read with confidence (which she struggle with ), not to be afraid and develop a love for reading at all times. She constantly stresses that reading is fun and shows it daily through her teaching. She also incorporates the children's interest and allows them to speak on topics they already know then challenges them to learn even more. Recently when my daughter started the reading clinic and I had concerns about how she was going to get there but Ms. A assured me that we would work together to get her there throughout the program as this would help to increase her reading skills while giving her extra support after school hours. When I needed her she was there and sat through my daughters tutoring session when I couldn't make it and spoke to her mentor afterwards to see how she was doing. Ms. A. goes above and beyond to make a difference in my daughters life and many other children and I appreciate and am grateful for each and every moment she has with her.

She is a true leader who all children can learn from. When my child is wrong she corrects him but also teaches him to learn from his mistakes by equipping him with the essential skills/strategies to be able to except his wrong doing and become a better person the next time around while making better choices. She mentions daily and reminds him and all other children that she comes to school each and everyday just to see them which makes a big difference. When my son came home the first day and said "mom Ms. Snell said we are the reasons she comes everyday (with a smile on his face), I knew that he felt comfortable and would be able to have a great year. It usually takes him time to feel that way about an individual but this took no time at all. Ms. Snell has been there through the rough times that myself and children have dealt with and continue to deal with, her listening ear does not criticize but lends advice and/or peaceful words to help soothe the situation even if it's just a little. She is hardworking and provides the children with all the energy she has on a daily basis and I am forever grateful to have had my children have a teacher like her. When I came into Deal in 7th grade, I barely knew any Spanish but wanted to learn as much as I could. I bounced around the various Spanish classes until I met Dr. Delgado. He took a chance on me, allowing me into his Spanish Humanities class, despite neither being a native Spanish speaker nor having gone to an immersion school. Although it was extremely difficult at first, he was with me every step of the way. He allowed me to work with him for an entire extra class period during his lunch, every day. I would often spend two or three hours working with him every day, almost all of that his own free time. I started to read La Ciudad de las Bestias by Isabel Allende. After I wrote each summary, he would painstakingly edit it with me for hours to improve my skills. He also introduced me to numerous amazing poems and plays in Spanish which we would analyze. I read and summarized her entire trilogy, La Ciudad de las Bestias, El Reino del Dragon de Oro, and El Bosque de los Pigmeos. Even after he caught me up with the class, he still allowed me to come in for his lunch break every day to further hone my skills. This year we analyzed many poems, acted plays, had class discussions, did debates, and did mock trials. This way we were able to work on our speaking and rhetoric. I have never gotten this kind of critical thinking teaching from any other language class. I am currently reading Allende's La Casa de los Espíritus (The House of Spirits) and analyzing it with him. He also organized a class trip to Guatemala where we had a week of immersion in a small village. We painted a mural in the town and used our conversational Spanish. It was truly a trip of a lifetime to live in a Guatemalan homestay. It was even more meaningful to be on this trip with such an amazing teacher. Through these books, poetic analysis, debates, trials, discussions, and the trip he has brought me from knowing no Spanish to reading high literature and being able to carry a conversation in Spanish. He is a truly amazing teacher who can push everyone to achieve their full potential.

I appreciate Ms. Hopkins because she pushed me to have exceptional work in her class. In 5th grade, my ELA teacher didn't teach me the material I needed to be ready for 6th grade ELA. Because of this, I came into 6th grade with little confidence in my ability to write essays and understand different writing and reading methods. On the first day of school, Ms. Hopkins let it be known that she was going to do everything in her ability to make sure that we understood the material. She also let it be known that there were going to be times that we wouldn't enjoy her methods or her class. She was not wrong. Once we got into the more complicated work in her class, Ms.Hopkins did everything in her power to insure that the information would stick. As first, it seemed as the work was unneeded. Ironically, when time came for essay writing and test taking, it was clear that all the time she took in making sure we understood what we learned payed off. It was most clear when the PARCC came and I knew how to write different essay forms that I would need to know how to write. The cherry on top, however, was that Ms. Hopkins taught us life lessons that some are forced to learn the hard way. These are the main reasons that I am very much appreciative of Ms. Hopkins caring, sincere, and determined nature.

Dr. Delgado has been teaching Spanish Humanities to me, Baldewin Bokus since 6th grade. My family is not native Spanish speakers at home. I had had Spanish everyday K-4 at my previous elementary school in CT. When we moved to DC for my final year of elementary school at John Eton, there was no Spanish. At Alice Deal, Dr. Delgado evaluated me and told me that I would have to work hard, as I was 1 to 2 years behind other students. Dr. Delgado has supported me all the way. At first I lacked confidence and was always shy in class. Dr. Delgado challenged me. The result today: I participated in a school trip to Guatemala and had no issue expressing myself and exploring the culture of Guatemala. Dr. Delgado is totally dedicated to all of his students. During summer, he took the time to correct weekly book summaries I would send him. He is VERY responsive to my emails and questions. I am so lucky to have had this wonderful teacher in my life. Ms Sanchez came over and spoke with her, took her back to her classroom so she could have breakfast there, then texted me to let her know Karina was back in her class room and sent a couple of pictures. She's amazing - can't say enough good things about her. She is also always quick with a smile and a hug, and kids gravitate towards her because of that - and adults :).

I re-enrolled my daughter into Payne Elementary School after putting her into 3 other schools over the past two years. It's a long story but my daughter has been diagnosed with a development delay as well as ADHD. The school she attended in kindergarten was not a good fit because they were not proactive at all with her, so I enrolled her in my local school which worked out surprisingly well for the rest of her kindergarten year. She went back to that school for 1st grade (but unfortunately I had the enlightening idea that the Montessori environment would probably be the best fit for her: I was sorely mistaken. The classrooms were chaotic and she wasn't learning for most of her time there. Not only was she hardly learning, but she was also having meltdowns and refusing to enter her class (so basically I felt like it was worse than daycare- we had moved beyond that when she attended daycare). So, I decided to put her back in Payne (admitting to myself that I should have never taken her out of this school). Ms. Hubbard, along with her colleague, Ms. Perry advocated for my daughter to get a dedicated aide, which has helped her tremendously to be able to become an active learner in her second-grade class, both academically and socially! Before my daughter received the aide, she tried to help my daughter as much as possible, and now she has made amazing gains in her academic success! Ms. Hubbard's thoughtfulness and dedication has put my mind at ease so much and I can only imagine how my daughter would have fared if it had not been for her. Thank you so much, Ms. Hubbard!

Being in Ms. Warren's class is one of the few things that has gotten me through the school year. She's always energetic and kind, and somehow manages to radiate positivity every single day. Her teaching style is heavily focused on discussion, and there's always an opportunity to voice your perspective. One thing that amazes me is that when a student says a remark that sparks controversy during our discussions, Ms. Warren is quick to diffuse the situation, acknowledge that everyone's opinion is valid, and then explain why it may have been insensitive or ignorant, like when a student jokingly yelled out "All lives matter" during a discussion about the Black Lives Matter movement. Although everyone knew it was a joke, she still took the time to explain how that phrase was used to diminish the significance of the movement. She's also incredibly empathetic and notices whenever someone is feeling down. In fact, she's done the most out of my teachers in helping me through my depression. Ms. Warren was the first to talk with me, listen to my situation, and provide support and advice wherever she could. She offered her own life experiences and shared what she did when she was in a similar situation. When my situation worsened, she helped me connect to one of the social workers at school. Although I might be struggling to do assignments outside of the classroom, her encouragement and support had never faltered.

After Ms. Smiley left, I was scared. I thought Ms. Smiley was the best we could have gotten. But then we got Ms. Jeffries. She seemed like a normal teacher, but Ms. Jeffries, you were a lot more. Up until then, school was easy. It was not a challenge. You helped me to see my full potential as a student and a writer. You know how to make me laugh, but you still know how to prepare us for what's next. I appreciate that you care for our future. Thank you.

She recognized that both of our children were advanced in some areas and made sure to create curriculum that would not only keep them engaged, but would challenge them to keep trying to attain higher levels of knowledge. She is a wizard with classroom management--which I guess you would have to be with a room full of 6 year olds. Our youngest son has the energy of 1000 puppies and she's able to keep him on task, engaged and accountable for his conduct. Lots of appreciation to Ms. Glover from the Deskins Family.
