If I could nominate this teacher each year for Teacher of the Year, I would. She brings her passion of music to her students that makes her class a lot of fun. She is so encouraging and helpful to students as they begin their musical journey. She is also very patient when she gets those occasional students whose heart really isn’t into band anymore. I have seen her help a student who discovered they really didn’t like the instrument they chose originally, switch and get caught up on a new instrument. She picks out songs with student involvement that are songs THEY want to play which makes it so much more enjoyable for the kids. She communicates with parents all the time so that we know what is going on with the classroom and our student. She is by far, the best band director and teacher around. Mrs. VanderHaeghen though also is one of the best supporters of the PTO! If we have a need, she is there. She also supports teachers at the school by serving on a school committee. All the while, she is also a parent and participates at different district-wide organizations for parents as well as the PTO for her child’s school.

Ms. Hiser has incredible energy and works so hard to help every single one of her students. The best teachers must be passionate, dedicated, and absolutely fearless: and Ms. Hiser has these qualities in abundance. As long as there are children in the world, they will need to be inspired by great teachers: and I am glad mine will have Ms. Hiser.

Braxton shows so much commitment to the students. She is making a huge impact to each student no matter where they come from. Her commitment to making a positive impact shows how well she served her community as Miss Indiana just a couple years ago.

Ms. Vanegas became Tirza’s teacher when her original teacher had to step away. But Ms. Vanegas is so much more than a substitute. She loves and cares for the children deeply, and teaches them wonderfully, both in terms of academics and in term of how to be a force for good in the world. I couldn’t be happier, and Tirza loves going to school everyday to be challenged, nurtured, and loved.

When I asked Tommy what makes Ms. Ollikainen an awesome teacher, he said that "she's kind." I agree! Not only is she kind, but she also does a wonderful job of supporting her students. She meets each kid where they are and teaches them how to be the best students they can be. She communicates with families about how students are doing and how we can help them be better students at home. We are so grateful Tommy is in her class!

He is such a fun teacher we get to do anything we want as long as we complete any assignment that are given to us. and that what I like about Mr. Rosa he cares about all of us.

He is just an awesome teacher he sometimes lets us do anything we want he gives us challenges like building certain things with legos and stuff like that. One thing that gets me excited to go to his class is because I can sit with my friends and we can work together.

Such a good gym teacher she's quiet, funny and also very kind to everyone around her. She cares about all of her students and she's also very fair to all of us and to me that's what makes her an awesome teacher.

Ms. Merk by far is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had, and he may not even realize it. I took AP US History with him my sophomore year. His class was the class that I looked forward to each day. Not only did it cheer me up on my worst days, but unlike any other academic class it felt like a time to de stress. Mr. Merk has a way of teaching where you’ll learn the most but stress the least. If someone out of nowhere asked me to say ten things I learned in his class I could do it, which, I must be honest, I couldn’t do with any of my other classes unless I relearned the content multiple times. All while assigning little amount of work. Mr. Merk taught in an exceptional way while not having his class take any sort of toll on my mental health. This alone already makes him a one of a kind teacher, but for him to do that in an AP class is one in a million, beyond exceptional. He would also give me encouragement for even small things that I did well like participating even when I got the answer wrong. As if his teaching, helping me de stress, and encouragement didn’t already make him outstanding, he was wonderful outside of the classroom as well. To help us study for the AP exam, Mr. Merk would hold review sessions in person, and online for those who couldn’t, after school and on days we didn’t have school at all. He donated his own personal time. This alone exemplifies his care for his students, his passion for teaching, and the kindness he displays. Beyond that, whenever we see each other, he always checks in to see how I’m doing. I cannot put into words how remarkable Mr. Merk is as a teacher.

One thing that gets me excited to go is knowing that we will do something fun like practicing to make our own music or just listening to music and chilling. I want to let them know that I care because he is a good teacher to everyone and I've also known him since I came to the school so we've known each other for almost 7 years.

Mr. Bedient was my teacher last year and he wasn't like any other teacher that I've ever had before he was passionate, inspiring and also very funny. I just want to let him know that he was a good teacher to me and that his good teaching helps me so much now.

She is amazing, she is so understanding she cares about all of her students and that's why I love Ms. Baxter. When anything goes wrong we can go to her and talk about it and she can understand where we are coming from and most importantly she's very funny she always find a way to make us laugh even if we are not having a good day.
