I have such respect and appreciation for Mr Walsh. My son does his best work with Mr Walsh and that is quite impressive to me as he approaches the teen years. Mr Walsh finds the best qualities of his “young scholars”, as he refers to them and he gets them to do their best work. He understands that the point of school is to learn and not just to punish those who have trouble turning things in on time. You can tell he truly loves his job and kids. He understands that the difficult kids are not choosing to be difficult, they are just differently-abled and he therefore just finds what works for each individual student. As a parent, I only wish more teachers could be like him. I hope the administration realizes what an asset he is and he can share his knowledge with the more junior teachers. I have such deep appreciation for Mr Walsh. He is such a caring and thoughtful teacher. Today, he is out sick yet he took the time to send my son a note through me to let him know that he would be having a sub and outlined for him what he expected out of him, what he should work on, what he could do to relieve his jitters and finally how to advocate for himself with the sub if he needed a break in class. He knows my son so well that he knew he needed that advance notice and those little reminders to set him up for a good day. I cannot express how much this means to me and to my son. I’ve said this before but he brings out the best in my son which can be challenging at times and for that I’m so grateful. He is an exceptional teacher and we were lucky to get him this year.
